Friends, it’s been a hard slog.

I’m accidentally courting controversy now….Why?

Because according to Amazon….I write about New Age Mysticism.

They did this to my first book and now to my second.

This is a nasty mischaracterization and mis-categorization of me and my work. AND ! It’s the kind of mistake that can alienate or put off potential readers.

And I understand why.

(they did me dirty)

For the record:
I am NOT now, nor was I ever, a “New Age” writer—despite how they label me.

Other booksellers have not done me dirty this way, just Amazon.

What is happening?
Is it that authors writing what is Christian outside of modern, white, American Evangelicalism norms get ostracized this way?

Who else get this kind of treatment—getting maligned and pigeonholed as “fringe” or “non preferred” or “progressive / new-age”? If any of this is true, it’s a shame. It hurts a lot of writers and throws unaware potential readers into an unnecessary quandary.

But in this cultural climate it is EXTTRA harmful. As it is, too many people who claim to be Christians in the USA will reject even a faint whiff of a “WOKE AGENDA” to which “new age” is probably lumped into. It’s straight up out of bounds.

So, how do I overcome this? I don’t even know.

What I am writing about:
I’m writing about early Christians. The ones who lived inn settings not like ours and not in this country, or Europe. Is that just TOO BIZARRE for the mainstream?

Friends,
I’m going to need extra support for my book.

I need you to stand up for the book and the writing even though it’s not centered on America and American Christianity.

History matters.

It’s important to connect deeply with our spiritual history. It should not be considered unsavory or suspicious.

It’s hard enough to get people interested in buying books, at all, but when disinformation runs rampant, it quickly becomes an obstacle too large to surmount.

And I say all this to admit it’s been hard for me to not feel terribly discouraged since I learned about this.

I’m second-guessing why I bothered to write the book at all. If it’s only going to be mislabeled and met with suspicion or distain before it even has a chance? Maybe the last three years of my life on this project were wasted.

Time will tell.

It makes me think I should say goodbye to such endeavors like writing books.

In the last few weeks, I’ve started spending a lot of time looking for work in communications and design. (graphic design, marketing, videos, presentations, promotions, social media management, etc. which is the training of my undergraduate degree.)

I’ve sent out about 75 applications and heard back from just a few. I’ve since learned that the statistics say up to 1/3 of listed job openings are not legit or actual. The lack of reply has been saddening.

At the end of the day, I really need the money so I continue to search. So, if you know of job openings, you can check my resume at LinkedIn.com/n/lisacolondelay and lend me a hand.

You can also help by, ignoring the mislabel, and getting the book here ⬇️
