Delightful Efforts

Mini companions for the road ahead

When the world seems bleak, ominous, and short on goodness, we have to be resourceful. Creators, like myself, have to keep hope alive by offering different ways of seeing and being.

After learning about Jeep Ducking (more on that shortly), I realized I wanted to start something to add more delight into my day and also gift others with the experience of joyful surprise.

The concept is simple—give people, who I think might enjoy it, a little squishy creature to adore their vehicle dashboard.

It’s called Dashboard Delights

If the recipient wants to pay in forward, or enhance the experience, I’m also ready to help.

What if a whole movement of extra kindness could begin? Maybe it’ll just fizzle out, but as I’ve decorated my vehicle with these soft and squishy, little creatures and set them up for a good time with some fun items to give them an ecosystem…some joy started bubbling up for me again. I hope others feel the same way.

Instead of doom scrolling, I hope people might share what getting this wee gift was like and maybe others will jump on and start a trend of goodness. Good things can go viral too right?

It’s called “Dashboard Delighting” but maybe I missed an opportunity to call it “fun with carPETS”

WHAT IS “JEEP DUCKING” ?

Jeep ducking, also known as Duck Duck Jeep,[1] is a custom among owners of Jeep vehicles in which they leave rubber ducks on other Jeeps, originally Wranglers, but now including all Jeep models.[2]

History

The origins of the gesture have been attributed to Allison Parliament (who passed away on June 22, 2024). A Canadian resident of Alabama. In 2020, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, she had purchased rubber ducks to hide at a Canadian friend’s house as a way to thank that friend for letting her visit. After having had an unpleasant interaction with another person in the parking lot of a convenience store, she stated that she felt inspired to leave one of the ducks on a Jeep in a store parking lot with a simple note stating “nice Jeep” as an act of kindness. The owner of that Jeep saw Parliament place the duck and suggested that she make a social media post. Parliament made a post, which then went viral and popularized the action of “ducking”.

Meta has given me nothing but trouble linking a new account, so I’m not on Instagram yet, which I like far more than Facebook.

How would you decorate your dashboard? I’d love to hear your ideas.
