How to work with the coming artificial intelligence
Advice to prepare for what's here and what's coming soon 🤖
Not a techy person? This is still very much for you.
For years, I’ve followed OpenAI and late in 2022 I started working with art creation and now I collaborate on many other tasks too using ChatGPT 3.5
What OpenAI has been doing (as have governments and billion-dollar companies) is working towards creating Artificial General Intelligence. They differ in that they are attempting to do it in a way that is transparent and widely available so that when a large scale shift happens more people won’t be paralyzed with shocked and some will even be a little prepared. In case you don’t know…it’s coming and things things will be changing faster then anyone realized.
Let me explain:
See this image?
This is art I prompted AI to make about this article. It took about .3 seconds.
I wanted something abstract and creative. Pow! Out of thin air. Done.
People have long thought that robots and learning machines would replace boring or monotonous jobs. They will. For sure. But that’s not all.
We are finding out fast that technological advances are proving that creative, highly skilled and complex work are easily assisted or handled completely with better results using AI and learning machines.
Lawyers, chefs, soldiers, athletes, surgeons, musicians, artists, and many more tasks and occupations are areas that learning machines are outpacing and outperforming humans even now, in certain instances.
Even now, you may have noticed that companies such as google, micosoft, canva, grammarly, and many others are augmenting what they offer by adding AI assistants to create images or draft letters, for instance. AI is being used a bit like a genie.
Furthermore, in the near future Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)will be reached and that means we have an intelligence who can outsmart us.
Just like the computer as chess master can know every move and beat any player, the AGI can figure out its own checkmate with us, if it wishes. Then not long after that it can advance forward to a point (theoretically) where it is smarter than all human brains in the world combined—an event which has been termed “The Singularity”.
Let me continue by telling you that I have written this entire post on my own. NO AI HELP at all!
I’m sure if you look it over you will find mistakes. Every week, I re-read my post for a fourth or fifth time (even after it’s been published) and find additional mistakes. AI will offer (and does offer) a way to avoid these common human foibles of mine and maybe yours too?
Have you tried it?
Instead of having it write for me today, I decided to ask ChatGPT to offer some guidance for us humans for the future. How do we prepare?
I wanted to put its intelligence in service to our betterment as we get outsmarted and outmaneuvered to see if we could learn from its finding and its advice.
Maybe, just maybe we can adapt.
It’s clever as you will witness. IMO-we need to wake up and collaborate immediately.
Let’s have courage for this new era.
I posed this question to ChatGPT 3.5:
What recommendations do you have for humans once the Singularity is reached?
It responded with…
“recommendations aim[ed] to foster a symbiotic relationship between humans and AI,” (I will place these answers—which came off a bit grandiose—in the paid subscription section as bonus and a thank you to you fine and generous people! XOX)
Then, I replied:
These are good answers mainly for those in proximity to technology and power related to AI. Now, please answer as if you are giving guidance to an ordinary person who may be meaningfully affected by the shift.
And I think ChatGPT gave a thoughtful reply—
ChatGPT:
If you're an ordinary person affected by the significant advancements in AI, here are some practical guidelines to consider:
Continuous Learning and Adaptation: Embrace lifelong learning. Cultivate skills that AI may not easily replicate, such as creativity, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. This flexibility will help you adapt to changing job markets and opportunities.
Stay Informed: Follow developments in AI and how they might impact your daily life. Being aware of the changes can help you better prepare and make informed decisions.
Embrace Change: Be open to new technologies and ways of working. Don't fear change; instead, seek to understand how new tools or technologies can improve your life or work.
Utilize AI Tools: Embrace AI-powered tools and technologies to enhance your productivity or daily life. These tools can simplify tasks, streamline processes, and create new opportunities.
Adopt a Healthy Skepticism: While AI can be powerful and helpful, be cautious about blindly trusting all AI-driven decisions or information. Verify sources and outputs to ensure reliability.
Prioritize Privacy and Security: Be mindful of your data and how it's used. Understand the privacy policies of apps and services you use and take steps to protect your personal information.
Seek Community and Connection: In an increasingly technological world, fostering real connections and communities is crucial. Building relationships and networks can provide support, opportunities, and a sense of belonging.
Advocate for Ethical Use of AI: Support initiatives and policies that prioritize ethical AI use and human well-being. Voice concerns if you see AI being used in ways that might negatively impact society or individuals.
Prepare for Changes in Employment: Understand that AI might change the job market. Consider acquiring versatile skills or exploring new career paths that align with emerging opportunities.
Take Care of Mental Health: Rapid technological changes can be overwhelming. Prioritize self-care, seek support if needed, and maintain a healthy balance between technology use and offline activities.
Remember, while advancements in AI may bring challenges, they can also present opportunities. Staying adaptable, informed, and involved in your community can help navigate the changes and ensure you're prepared for the evolving landscape.
What do you think about these answers?
Can and will you do this?
