Lisa, I resonate a lot with this post. I recognize so many cultural ways of relating to God are based in a transactional model. It's hard to break free from because it permeates so much. And once we do begin to break free, it's hard to believe we stayed in those confined spaces so long. I appreciate the points you draw out here.
Thanks for your reply. I confess that I am not immune to the milieu. I find myself weighing the balance and negotiating unawares in transactional ways. If we all push against it together, maybe we can stem the tide...and we should surely be on guard that our church communities don't operate with this framework. It turns death-dealing and selfish far too quickly
