DETAILS about Finley

Finley is most famous for writing Merton's Palace of Nowhere, The Contemplative Heart, and Christian Meditation: Experiencing the Presence of God.

He was raised Roman Catholic and entered monastic life after high school.

Thomas Merton became his novice director in 1962. Finley abruptly left the monastery in January 1967 after being sexually abused by a monk who was also his Confessor. He told no one about what happened.
